Tour Members Shine in Cambodia

November 23: Mercedes-Benz Tour regular Shaaban Hussin produced the finest performance of his career to take second place in the US$300,000 Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open on the Asian Tour.

The young Malaysian finished in second place one stroke behind winner Marcus Both from Australia.

Shaaban finished with a four round aggregate of eight-under-par 280 after carding rounds of 71, 67, 72 and 70.

He missed a birdie putt on the final hole that would have forced a play-off and so picked up the runners-up cheque for US$32,550.

New Thai Star Namchok Conquers Tour

Hanoi, November 14: Namchok Tantipokhakul completed the finest season of his fledgling career today by winning the US$80,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam and securing the Mercedes-Benz Tour Order of Merit title.

The 22 year old Thai fired a final round one-over-par 73 to finish one stroke ahead of compatriot Pavit Tangkamolprasert. Pavit came in with a 67 at Kings’ Island Golf Club, north of Hanoi.

Namchok finished with a four-round-aggregate of 16-under-par 272 and earned a cheque for US$13,000.

Tour Titles in Sight for Namchok

Hanoi, November 13: Namchok Tantipokhakul opened up a three stroke lead in the US$80,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam today after the third round with another polished sub 70 performance.

The Thai golfer fired a five-under-par 67 at Kings’ Island Golf Club, north of Hanoi, for an impressive total of 17-under-par 199.

Nine Birdie Namchok on Top

Hanoi, November 12: Thailand’s Namchok Tantipokhakul fired a course record seven-under-par 65 today to take the halfway lead in the US$80,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam.

The talented 22 year old nailed nine birdies at Kings’ Island Golf Club to move to 12 under par for the tournament for a one stroke lead over compatriot Panuphol Pittayarat.

Panuphol, aged 16, carded a 66, in what is the season-ending Tour Championship on the Mercedes-Benz Tour.

Namchok Shares Lead in Vietnam

Hanoi, November 11: Thailand’s Namchok Tantipokhakul bid to secure the Mercedes-Benz Tour Order of Merit title started perfectly today when he took a share of the first round lead in the season-ending US$80,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam.

The 22 year old, who currently leads the Merit list, fired a five-under-par 67 at Kings‘ Island Golf Club, which is about an hour outside of Hanoi.

It was a fine first day for Thailand in what is the Tour Championship as Namchok’s compatriots Panuphol Pittayarat, Tanatchan Puaktes and Natthawut Phiansamrit all joined him in the lead.

Namchok Aims to be the Mercedes-Benz Master

Hanoi, November 9: Thailand’s Namchok Tantipokhakul, the current leader of the Mercedes-Benz Tour Order of Merit, tees-off in the season ending Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam tomorrow hoping to seal his position as the Tour’s number one player.

The 22 year old rising star, who won the B-ing Championship in Thailand on the Mercedes-Benz Tour this season, leads the Merit list with earnings of US$14,540 and is the man everyone will be trying to catch.

The tournament, which is the Tour Championship, is being played at King’s Island Golf Club in Hanoi from November 11 to 14 and boasts prize money of US$80,000.

Thammanoon’s Five Iron Firecracker

Jakarta: Thailand’s Thammanoon Srirot earned the distinction of making the first albatross on the Mercedes-Benz Tour at the Mercedes-Benz Masters Indonesia.

Thammanoon made a two on the par-five 17th at Emeralda Golf and Country Club in the first round of the US$60,000 tournament. He nailed a drive 330 yards and then holed a five iron from 200 yards.

“The ball bounced once and then went into the hole rattling the flag stick. My playing partners shouted ‘it’s in, it’s in!’. When I got to the hole and looked into the cup I couldn’t believe it. It is the first time I have had an albatross,” said Thammanoon.

Kwanchai Strolls to Victory

Jakarta, October 17: Thailand’s Kwanchai Tannin left the field trailing in his wake today as he recorded a convincing seven stroke victory in the US$60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Indonesia.

He fired a final round four-under-par 68 at Emeralda Golf and Country Club for a winning total of 16-under-par 272.

Thailand’s Wisut Artjawanat finished joint second along with Indonesian Johannes Dermawan – the club’s General Manager who completed one of the performances of the season on the Mercedes-Benz Tour. Both players closed with 71s.
