PGM create exempt categories

July 25: The Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour, who this year are joint sanctioning three events with the ASEAN PGA Tour, have introduced exempt categories aimed at strengthening their fledgling circuit.

One of these categories gives Malaysian winners of ASEAN PGA Tour events a three-year exemption, starting from the year 2011, and effective from the next day that the tournament was won.  If the golfer has won more than one tournament , the period of exemption is effective from the next day the last tournament was won.

In addition Malaysian winners of OneAsia events starting from the year 2011 are granted a four-year exemption, effective from the next day the tournament was won.

Namchok number one on Tour

July 24: Thailand’s Namchok Tantipokhakul moved to the top of the ASEAN PGA Tour Order of Merit after a strong finish at the weekend.

Namchok, winner of the Merit list title in 2009, tied for fourth in the Singha Hua Hin Open to earn a cheque for US$3,256.

Amateur sensation Phachara Khongwatmai, aged 14, triumphed in Hua Hin to become the youngest winner of a professional golf tournament.
