July 16, Hua Hin: Wolmer Murillo from Venezuela took the first round lead in the Singha Panasonic Hua Hin Open today after shooting a fine nine-under-par 63 at Royal Hua Hin Golf Club.
The unheralded 34-year-old produced a flawless bogey-free round in the fourth event of the year on the ASEAN PGA Tour.
He made four birdies on the front nine and five on the back, highlighted by four-in-a-row from the 13th.
Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng, the current leader of the ASEAN PGA Tour Order of Merit, finished the day in second place after returning a 67 along with countrymen Chinnarat Phadungsil, Kasidit Lepkurte, Itthipat Buranatanyarat and Kwanchai Tannin.
Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai, winner of this event two years as a 14-year-old amateur, finished a shot further behind along with eight other players.
Defending champion and last year’s Merit list winner Gunn Charoenkul from Thailand came in with a 71 to sit in a tie for 38th position.
His illustrious compatriot Prom Meesawat finished the day with a 72.
