Penang, Malaysia, June 11: The PGM-ASEAN PGA Penang Classic tees-off tomorrow at Penang Golf Resort marking the second time this season the ASEAN PGA Tour has joint sanctioned an event with the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour.
The US$60,000 tournament is the fifth event of the year on the ASEAN PGA Tour and as expected boasts a strong Malaysian field as well a wealth of leading names from abroad.
Airil Rizman, Sukree Othman, R. Nachimuthu, and Kenneth De Silva lead the Malaysia challenge while also playing are Indonesian number one Rory Hie, and Mars Pucay and Ferdie Aunzo from the Philippines.
Singaporean’s Koh Dengshan and Justin Han are also playing as well as up and coming Thai players Tanatchan Puaktes and Apichart Papitak.
This is the first year the ASEAN PGA and PGM have come to together to joint sanction events.
Last month Singapore’s Mardan Mamat claimed the PGM-ASEAN PGA A’Famosa Masters while in October the burgeoning circuits will come together for PGM-ASEAN Negeri Sembilan Masters.
The ASEAN PGA Tour features a total of 12 events in 2013 worth US$1,095,000, which is a record haul of the circuit.
