Kota Permai to host Mercedes-Benz Masters

July 22, Kuala Lumpur: The third Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia will be played for the first time next month at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club – one of the country’s most highly rated golf clubs.

The US$60,000 tournament will tee-off from August 18 to 21 and is the eighth event on this year’s 10-leg Mercedes-Benz Tour.

Top Malaysians Danny Chia, Airil Rizman and 2008 champion Ben Leong will head the local challenge while Juvic Pagunsan from the Philippines and last year’s Merit champion Thailand’s Namchok Tantipkhakul will also compete.

In addition Singapore’s top two golfers Mardan Mamat and Lam Chih Bing, both winners on the Mercedes-Benz Tour, have entered.

Malaysian Pair Seize Lead at Saujana

July 15: Malaysians S. Siva Chandran and Shaifubari Muda seized the first round lead in the US$60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia today at Saujana Golf and Country Club.

They both shot five-under-par 67s in the Mercedes-Benz Tour event to lie ahead of Taiwanese veteran Lu Chien-soon and Mars Pucay and Marvin Dumandan from the Philippines, who all returned 68.

A host of top names are in contention with Singapore’s Quincy Quek shooting 69, and Malaysia’s Iain Steel and Felix Casas from the Philippines on 70.

Singaporean Lam Chih Bing, who beat Lu in a play-off for the Salcon Negri Masters on Sunday, carded a 71.

Next Stop Saujana

Kuala Lumpur, June 18: The Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia will return to Saujana Golf and Country Club this year and once again attract some of the most gifted young professionals in the region.

The tournament will be played from July 15 to 18 and boast prize money of US$60,000 – an increase of US$10,000 from last year.

Malaysian Ben Leong claimed the inaugural title last season and will return this year. He was joined at a press conference today at Saujana to announce details of the event by compatriot Danny Chia.

The Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia is the fifth tournament on this year’s eight-leg Mercedes-Benz Tour and will see a full field of 144 players compete.

Thaworn Claims First Mercedes-Benz Tour Title

Melaka, Malaysia, June 12: Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant added another feather to his cap today when he won the US$50,000 Heritage Melaka Classic for his first victory on the Mercedes-Benz Tour.

The 42 year old carded a final round four-under-par 68 to beat Singapore’s Lam Chih Bing by one shot at Tiara Melaka Golf & Country Club.

Lam had started the day with a two stroke lead but had to settle for second after signing off with a 73.

Thaworn drew upon the experience of winning 10 titles on the Asian Tour to come from behind and beat Lam over the closing holes.

Heritage Melaka Classic Launched on Tour

Melaka, June 3: The Mercedes-Benz Tour will welcome a new tournament onboard next week when it hosts the Heritage Melaka Classic at Tiara Melaka Country Club in Malaysia.

The US$50,000 tournament, which is being sponsored by the state government as part of efforts to boost golf tourism in the historic state of Melaka, will be played from June 9 to 12.

Singapore’s Mardan Mamat, the current leader of the Mercedes-Benz Tour Order of Merit, along with Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant plus top Malaysians Danny Chia, Ben Leong and Airil Rizman headline a quality field for what will be the fourth stop on this year’s eight-leg Tour.

September 3, Chonburi, Thailand: Wisut Artjanawat will be gunning for his second Mercedes-Benz Tour victory this week as he tries to close the gap on Order of Merit leader Angelo Que of the Philippines.

The talented Thai, who won the Mercedes-Benz Masters Philippines in May, lies fourth in the rankings behind Que, Mars Pucay of the Philippines and Danny Chia of Malaysia.
