Dominant Chawalit Conquers Mercedes-Benz Masters

Singapore, August 14: Chawalit Plaphol cruised to a wire-to-wire victory in the US$60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore today at Laguna National Golf and Country Club.

The sweet swinging Thai fired a final round two-under-par 70 to win by five shots from his teenage compatriot Panuphol Pittayarat and Singapore’s Lam Chih Bing.

Panuphol carded a 69 and at the age of 17 showed that he is one of the most exciting young golfers in the region.

Lam, who was also second in this event in 2008 and fifth last year, shot a 66.

Chawalit on a mission

Singapore, August 13: Thailand’s Chawalit Plaphol increased his lead in the US$60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore to six shots after shooting his best round of the week with a six-under-par 66.

He moved to an impressive 15-under-par 201 for three rounds at Laguna National Golf and Country Club and is well placed to secure his second Mercedes-Benz Tour title of the year.

His compatriot Panuphol Pittayarat, aged 17, is in second place after also carding a 66.

Singapore’s Lam Chih Bing stormed back into contention with a 65 and is tied for third with his compatriot and defending champion Mardan Mamat, Singapore-based Australian Scott Barr and Thailand’s Pavit Tangkamolprasert. They are nine shots behind Chawalit.

Mamat Eyes Defense

Singapore, August 10: Singapore’s Mardan Mamat will attempt to successfully defend his Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore title when he tees-off tomorrow at Laguna National Golf and Country Club.

The US$60,000 tournament is the seventh event on this year’s Mercedes-Benz Tour, and has once again drawn one of the most formidable fields on the circuit.

Mamat, won by three strokes last year at Laguna National for his first win on the Tour, and starts as one of the favourites along with compatriot Lam Chih Bing.

A total of 35 Singaporeans have entered the tournament including rising stars Quincy Quek and Justin Han.

Kota Permai to host Mercedes-Benz Masters

July 22, Kuala Lumpur: The third Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia will be played for the first time next month at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club – one of the country’s most highly rated golf clubs.

The US$60,000 tournament will tee-off from August 18 to 21 and is the eighth event on this year’s 10-leg Mercedes-Benz Tour.

Top Malaysians Danny Chia, Airil Rizman and 2008 champion Ben Leong will head the local challenge while Juvic Pagunsan from the Philippines and last year’s Merit champion Thailand’s Namchok Tantipkhakul will also compete.

In addition Singapore’s top two golfers Mardan Mamat and Lam Chih Bing, both winners on the Mercedes-Benz Tour, have entered.

Resounding Victory for Juvic

Phuket, June 5: Juvic Pagunsan from the Philippines recorded his first win on the Mercedes-Benz Tour today following a runaway seven stroke victory in the US$60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand.

Starting the day with a four stoke lead he closed with a five-under-par 65 at Laguna Phuket Golf Club.

Thailand’s Udorn Duangdecha claimed outright second after shooting a 68 while Lam Chih Bing from Singapore was one stroke further back in third position. He carded a 67.

Pagunsan powers into lead

Phuket, June 4: Juvic Pagunsan from the Philippines put himself on the threshold of his maiden victory on the Mercedes-Benz Tour today by taking the third round lead in the US$60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand.

The 32 year old, who has collected a wealth of victories during his impressive career, fired a five-under-par 65 for a four shot lead over Thailand’s Pattaraphol Khanthacha and Udorn Duangdecha.

He leads the tournament on 14-under-par 196 at Laguna Phuket Golf Club.

Flu Stricken Pattaraphol Surprise Leader

Phuket, June 3: Thailand’s talented crop of young golfers flourished once again today at the US$60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand with new kid on the block Pattaraphol Khanthacha taking the halfway lead.

The 20-year-old from Ratchaburi shot his second successive five-under-par 65 for a tournament total of 10-under-par 130.

He leads by one stroke from Filipino Juvic Pagunsan at Laguna Phuket Golf Club. Pagunsan also carded a 65.Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat and Lam Chih Bing from Singapore are two strokes further back after carding rounds of 68.

Scorching Low Scores at Laguna Phuket

Phuket, June 2: The opening day of the US$60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand witnessed some sensational low scoring with four players taking the lead with course record five-under-par 65s and a 13 year old amateur upstaging the professionals with a 67.

Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat, Ratsak Hansapiban and Pattaraphol Khanthacha and Singaporean Lam Chih Bing lead the way after confident rounds at Laguna Phuket Golf Club.

They lead by a shot from Thailand’s Namchok Tantipokhakul, winner of last year’s Mercedes-Benz Tour Order of Merit list, and Juvic Pagunsan from the Philippines.
